5 Art Invitations To Create – Encourage Your Child’s Creativity

What are Art Invitations to Create?

Invitations to Create are art activities which are easy to setup. The child can do them on their own, or with little help from an adult. They’re a great way of encouraging children’s creativity and allowing them to explore new art materials or techniques.

What should I do if my child doesn’t like art?

If your child is not keen on art, invitations to create are a great way of enticing them to give things a go. There is no right or wrong way, it’s just about having fun and discovering what happens. This builds the child’s self confidence and in turn encourages them to try future activities.

How do I setup an Invitation To Create?

Setup the activity ahead of time.

It adds to the excitement if the child discovers the invitation to create set out for them when they come home from school, or come down for breakfast at the weekend.

I often use trays to set out materials as it means I can prepare them in advance and also helps to keep the mess contained. For more art tips for parents take a look at my 10 top art tips.

Keep it simple

The Invitation To Create can be as simple as some paper, some cotton buds and a couple of colours of paint. Pointillism is a great Invitation to create.

Don’t be too prescriptive

You may find that they do something completely different to what you expected with the materials. That’s ok. It’s all part of the fun.

You might want to give some guidance like “What do you think would happen if you dripped the paint on?” It’s best to use questions rather than instructions though, to increase their curiosity and reinforce that there is no right or wrong way to create.

This is a great idea !!! I think at 10 my youngest takes it upon herself to do this. She gathers anything she thinks could be made into something and brings it together for crafting time !!! #blogcrush
